Subbulakshmi Jegadeesan is an Indian politician. She is the Deputy general-secretary of the DMK. She has served as a Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Subbulakshmi was also a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. She is representing the Tiruchengode constituency of Tamil Nadu as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) political party. However, she began her career in Indian politics in the year 1977. She was previously elected to the Modakurichi constituency of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
Thereafter, she was elected in the year 1996 to the Erode constituency of Tamil Nadu. Before it, she was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu.
Personal Life and Marriage
Subbulakshmi was born in 1947 in Kodumudi, Erode District, a town in Tamil Nadu, which was earlier a part of British India. Her residence is in Erode. She completed her education at the University of Madras and Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in 1968 and 1967.
After graduating, she got married to Jagadeesan Jagadeesan in the year 1972.

Political Career Debut
In the year 1980, Subbulakshmi joined DMK and served as a social welfare minister in the Karunanidhi Ministry department of the Indian government.
In the 14th Lok Sabha of India, she represented the Tiruchengode constituency of Tamil Nadu as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
In the year 1992, Subbulakshmi contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time.
Active Role in Indian Politics as a Minister
Subbulakshmi has served as a minister in the Ministry of Textile, Khadi, Handloom industry in the years from 1977 to 1980. During these years, she has scaled up the small industries and prohibition and excise of Tamil Nadu.
From 1989 to 1991, she served as a minister in the Ministry of Social Welfare of Tamil Nadu.
After that, she served as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Government of India.
Thereafter, she also served her duties as a Deputy General Secretary & High-level committee member of the DMK party.
Controversies
Subbulakshmi Jegadeesan was arrested under TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) and imprisoned for nine months in jail. It became an active application after the Punjab insurgency between 1985 and 1995.
